June 8 in the framework of the Youth day of the business program of the Petersburg international economic forum with the support of the VEB.RF at the stand of the VEB group “Russia Extends” was held a session “Horizon 2100. How do young people see the future?”– the second event of the big international youth project “Horizon-2100”.
Its first stage was held in the format of the International youth on-line competition of scientific hypotheses and fantastic ideas about the future, where young people showed themselves in individual scientific and creative work. The contestants sent 237 scientific and fantastic works, where they gave their vision of the future at the turn of 2100, 65 of them reached the final.
And at its second stage, a collective action took place: on June 7, the foresight”landing” of participants and experts of the Competition landed in St. Petersburg, and divided into teams, conducted a brainstorming attack in accordance with the main trends of SPIEF’19:
- “The world economy: finding balance»,
- “The future of the Russian economy»,
- “National and global threats»,
- “Science and technology for the future»,
- “Partnership and dialogue of civilizations through the prism of the future”.
The participants of the foresight session explored current trends and threats and simulated their vision of the future. The focus of attention of young people was the question of the need to develop a common policy to address global environmental problems; the creation of an international system of emergency response; the cultivation in society of the philosophy of conscious consumption; large-scale development of information security and the creation of institutions to confront information pressure; improving the future DNA code using nanotechnology and addressing the issue of longevity; improving the efficiency of mankind; formation of a new worldview: from “Homo Sapiens” to “Homo Spatium”.
At the end of the event, a competition of projects was held, the winner of which was the team “World economy: search for balance”. Despite the different origins of the participants – people from different parts of the world – they demonstrated a common serious and profound approach.
The foresight session was a success. According to the organizers and experts, such foresight sessions are useful both for professionals from different fields and for young people who take part in modeling the Future.
The culmination of the event was the session “Horizon 2100. How do young people see the future?”June 8 on the fields of SPIEF, where the Presentation of the results of foresight and the Ceremony of awarding the winners of the Competition of scientific and sci-fi works “Horizon 2100”.

The project “Horizon 2100” was implemented by the Center for modeling the future in education, science, economics and social and humanitarian sphere together with the Moscow aviation Institute (National research University). The Project partners are the international Academy of Transport, the National Institute for system studies of entrepreneurship, The charitable Foundation for support of innovations in the field of culture and education “facets OF the WORLD”, the Center of Youth innovation creativity of IPU RAS, Carlos Nemer Consulting-CNC company, Brazil.
Significant information support to the “Horizon 2100” Project provided Rossotrudnichestvo, the Foundation for support and protection of the rights of compatriots living abroad, the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, Committee of public relations of the Governments of Moscow, Socially useful non-profit organization “Bridges of integration” (Germany), Internet sites “All competitions” and “Competitions. Despite communications difficulties and the challenges of the present day Centre for modeling the future, managed to involve the young participants, jury members and experts from 34 countries, and the International jury of the competition “Horizon 2100” headed by outstanding scientists and famous people from Russia, Italy, Lebanon and Brazil: Professor Yuriy Sidelnikov, Russia; Professor Alberto Gasparini, Italy; Professor Carlos Nemer, Brazil; Professor Rotimi Garden, South Africa; academician Suhail Farah, Lebanon; Evelyn Schatz, Italy.
Irina Osokina, the Chairman of the organizing Committee of the competition “Horizon 2100”, Chairman of the Board of the Center for the simulation of the future, candidate of sociological sciences: the Bet was placed on the fact that young people are not constrained by any dogma and has less inertial thinking. And those unexpected, sometimes fantastic ideas, which she has borne, can obtain an unexpected embodiment of! Time has already proven this more than once…
